Recenzja: Yuna "Yuna"

Yuna jest młodą wokalistka, pochodzącą z Malezji. Nagrywała już wcześniej, ale "Yuna" jest jej debiutem na rynkach na całym świecie. Debiutem dość udanym, w który zaangażował się Pharrell Williams. Przesłuchanie płyty może chwilami budzić wątpliwości czemu persona o takiej renomie, podjęła się pomocy w wypromowaniu artystki na Zachodzie. Jednak utwory "dotknięte" przez słynnego producenta są najjaśniejszymi momentami płyty i pokazują jak duży potencjał ma młoda autorka, gdy współpracuje z właściwą osobą.

Album wypełnia muzyka pop, choć można usłyszeć też echa folkowe. Piosenki są delikatne i spokojne. Zresztą, cała płyta jest melodyjna i przyjemna w odbiorze. Głos Yuna ma bardzo przyjemny, dziewczęcy, uzupełniający się z brzmieniem. Jednak muszę przyznać, że wiele utworów może śmiało grać gdzieś w tle, nie przykuwając mocno uwagi, nie zmuszając do bliższego kontaktu. Są miłe dla ucha, ale - przynajmniej ja - nie potrafiłem większości od razu skojarzyć. Pojawiają się jednak również momenty bardzo charakterystyczne. "Bad Idea" to pierwszy utwór, któremu swój czas poświęcił Pharrell Williams. Brzmienie jest tutaj zdecydowanie inne niż reszty albumu, nie tak "gładkie". Podobnie jak w "See You Go", które Pharrell wzbogacił o elektroniczne wycieczki - z korzyścią dla piosenki. Wreszcie singlowe "Live Your Life" - znakomity utwór, pełen życia, optymizmu. Koniecznie trzeba go posłuchać. Ale to nie jedyne bardziej interesujące momenty. Warto zapoznać się też z "Island" i "Fading Flower", których bujający rytm bardzo dobrze wpływa na słuchacza. Generalnie rzecz ujmując - druga połowa płyty jest lepsza.

Teksty śpiewane są po angielsku, co można policzyć zarówno jako plus, jak i minus albumu. Większość nosi w sobie lekki smutek, melancholię, ale zdecydowanie nie jest to nastrój depresyjny, przytłaczający. Raczej lekkie zachmurzenie niż ciemna noc.

Z pewnością będę z zainteresowaniem czekał na kolejny album Yuny. Ten mi tchu w piersi nie zaparł, ale daje nadzieję na większe emocje w przyszłości.

Yuna is a young vocalist from Malaysia. She had some records before, however this self-titled album is the first to be released all over the world. And it's pretty good for a debut, a debut that Pharrell Williams was involved in. You might ask yourself a few times why a man of such renown made an effort to promote the singer. However, the songs 'touched' by famous producer, are the birghtest moments of the entire album and they show you how big is Yuna's potential, when she teams with the right person.

Record is filled with pop music, although you can hear echoes of folk. Songs are delicate and smooth. Entire CD is melodious and pleasant to listen. Yuna's voice is very nice, girlish, excellently corresponding with the music. However, I have admit that a lot of compositions can be easily played somewhere in background, without catching your attention immediately, not forcing you to listen more carefully. They're pleasant to hear, but - at least that was my case - you won't be able to recognise them at first. But there are also moments very characteristic. 'Bad Idea' is the first song that Pharrell Williams payed his attention to. The sound differs here from the rest of the album, it's not that smooth. Just as in 'See You Go', which is enriched by Pharrells trip into area of electronic, with a benefit for the song. Finally, the single 'Live Your Life" is an excellent track, full of life, optimism. It's a must, if you want to pick one song here. But htese aren't the only interesting moments. In my opinion it's also worth to give a try with 'Island' and 'Fading Flower', as their rocking rythm is really good for listener. Generally speaking: the second half of the album is simply better.

Lyrics are sung in English. You might consider it a prek, might consider a flaw. Most of them carry a dose of sadness, melancholy, but definitely the mood isn't overwhelming, depressive. It's more of a cloudy day with occasional rain, than deep, black night.

I'll surely wait for the next Yuna's album with interest. This one didn't take my breath away, but it gave me hope for some more powerful emotions in future.
