Recenzja: Darkness Falls "Alive in Us"

Tym razem parę słów o duecie z Kopenhagi - Darkness Falls, który wydał w ubiegłym roku płytę "Alive in Us".

Jest tutaj delikatna kołysanka "Noise on the Line", która stanowi łagodne i przyjemne wprowadzenie do reszty materiału. "The Void" to z kolei utwór bardziej ożywiony, z wykorzystaniem znacznej ilości elektroniki. "Before the Light Take Us" to z kolei znakomite rockowe granie, w którym słychać echa surfu. "Timeline" garściami czerpie z lat 80-tych i Depeche Mode. Jak widać inspiracji Dunki miały wiele. Całe szczęście korzystają z nich umiejętnie i efekt nie przyprawia o niesmak.

Jeśli chodzi o teksty, to w większości obracają się wokół tematu związków. Znajdziemy go prawie wszędzie - w "The Void" ("Emptiness calls from the void of you/(...)/It's a sickening of the heart/When you love someone and then they're gone"), w "Before The Light Takes Us" ("The time that we spend/Is it all just pretend/We have what we need/But our hearts bleed and seek"), w "Noise On The Line" ("You'll go all the way/To me and say/I'll stay in this old town/And wonder if I found/My true love, thats you").

I've got a weak spot for the Scandinavia for a very long time now. But quite recently I have started to observe some kind of bigger interest in vocalists from the North. This time I'd like to share my opinion on a duet from Copenhagen, Darkness Falls, who have released their debut album last year.

Producer of their album is no one else, but Trentemøller. It makes you patient about the sound. However even the best producer won't do much, if the material is no good from the start. Luckily, here it wasn't a problem. The CD begins with 'Intro' and that's probably all you can say about it: it's the sound of waves, that takes the whole album in brackets, somehow. The music itself draws from various areas. There's a delicate lullaby 'Noise on the Line', that serves as a smooth and pleasant introduction to the rest of the material. 'The Void' is more energetic, heavily using electronic. 'Hey!' seems to be a song that's been put here straight out of soundtrack from one of Robert Rodriguez' movies. 'Josephine', lasting longer than 6 and a half minutes, with Kim Las as a guest, has an interesting, hard climate - song develops slowly until the pulsing middle part, with very clear bass, just to slow down once again at the end. 'Before the Light Takes Us' is great, rock song, with clear echoes of surf. This song must be a killer at gigs, because it just won't let you sit. 'Timeline' draws from eighties and Depeche Mode. As you can see girls from Denmark had a really wide range of inspirations. Luckily, they use them wisely and the effect is tasty.

When it comes to lyrics, most of them is about relationships. We can find this subject almost everywhere: in 'The Void' ('Emptiness calls from the void of you/(...)/It's a sickening of the heart/When you love someone and then they're gone'), in 'Before the Light Takes Us' ('The time that we spend/Is it all just pretend/We have what we need/But our hearts bleed and seek'), in 'Noise on the Line' ('You'll go all the way/To me and say/I'll stay in this old town/And wonder if I found/My true love, thats you'). You certainly won't find anything original in here. But it all sounds good.

It's a good, equal album. Without incredible fireworks, but leaving you with feeling, that something great might be coming this way. Listening to this CD definitely won't hurt your ears.

For all the fans of numbers and such: 6/10
