Ren Harvieu to prawdziwa wojowniczka. O wydanie swojej pierwszej płyty musiała toczyć bój znacznie cięższy niż większość artystów - bój z własnym ciałem, po wypadku, w którym uszkodziła sobie kręgosłup. Na szczęście wyszła ze zmagań zwycięsko i nagrała album "Through the Night". A jest to album znakomity.
Czekałem na niego przez kilka miesięcy, także oczekiwania nie były najniższe. Młoda angielska wokalistka całkowicie im sprostała. Spory udział w jej sukcesie mieli bez wątpienia współautorzy piosenek. Wśród osób zaangażowanych w ich tworzenie znajdziemy m.in.: Eda Harcourta, Dave'a McCabe'a z The Zutons, Jimmy'ego Hogartha (producent i autor piosenek,z którego talentu korzystali Amy Winehouse, Sia, James Blunt, Corinne Bailey Rae i wiele, wiele innych osób) czy Howiego Payne'a. Powiem szczerze, że zastanawia mnie, jak brzmiałby utwór stworzony w całości przez Ren Harvieu i mam nadzieję kiedyś się przekonać. Efektem wspólnych wysiłków jest album wypełniony muzyką pop, wzbogaconą o nawiązania do soulu. Jednak nie jest to pop w stylu współczesnych stacji radiowych. To pop nawiązujący do najlepszych dokonań lat 60-tych. Te aranżacje, te melodie... Ja to całkowicie kupuję: ciepły wokal Ren, orkiestrę, wszystko razem.
Jaki nastrój ma ta płyta? Stary film. Deszczowa pogoda, noc w mieście, połyskujące neony, para tańcząca na ulicy. Kobieta w połyskującej sukni śpiewająca na tle aksamitu. Gdy słyszę utwór tytułowy, nie mogę powstrzymać podobnych skojarzeń. "Forever in Blue" z nastrojem dymu papierosowego unoszącego się w knajpie późną nocą. "Summer Romance" i nastrój zachodu słońca pod koniec lata. Ta płyta, to znakomita ścieżka dźwiękowa z filmu, którego nigdy nie nakręcono.
Nic dziwnego, że Ren Harvieu podbiła nawet Johnny'ego Marra...
Dla fanów cyferek: 8/10
Ren Harvieu is a true fighter. To release her first record, she had to struggle much harder than most artists do - she had to overcome limitations of her own body, after an accident which left her with injured spine. Luckily, she won the fight and recorded album 'Through the Night'. A brilliant album.
I've waited for it for a few months, so the expectations weren't low. Young English vocalist met them without any problems. Yes, without doubt co-authors of her songs had played a part in her success. Among the people invloved in writing them, you can find Ed Harcourt, Dave McCabe of The Zutons, Jimmy Hogarth (producer and writer for Amy Winehouse, Sia, James Blunt, Corinne Bailey Rae and many, many others) and Howie Payne. To be honest, I'd really like to hear how a song entirely written by Ren Harvieu would sound like. I hope to find out, one day. Their efforts brought to listener album filled with pop, enriched by soul music. However it's not a pop music, that you can hear in a modern radio station. This is pop that makes references to the best achievements from sixties. Those arrangements, these melodies... I'm into it all: Ren's warm vocal, orchestra, everything, everything.
What's the mood of this record? An old movie. Rainy weather, night in the city, shining neons, a couple dancing on the street. Woman in a glittering dress sings on the velvet background. Whenever I hear the title song, I can't stop these and similair visions in my mind. 'Forever in Blue' with atmosphere of cigarette smoke in pub, late at night. 'Summer Romance' and the mood of sunset at the end of summer. This album is an excellent soundtrack to a movie that has never been directed.
It's really no surprise, that even Johnny Marr fell for Ren Harvieu.
For all the fans of numbers and such: 8/10
